South Bend, Indiana: The first annual Philanthropy Summit hosted by Make a Difference Michiana and the St. Joseph County Chamber of Commerce featured Schu’s Grill and Bar as a recipient of one of their three Good Corporate Citizen Awards. Nominated by the American Cancer Society, Great Lakes Division, Schu’s Grill and Bar was recognized as a business that has been very instrumental in the chapter’s success due to some of the following efforts:

• Every year, over the course of an entire weekend’s business, Schu’s hosts their “Schulebration” during which celebrity servers donate all of their tips to the American Cancer Society
• Schu’s kicked off this year’s “Schulebration” by going 100% smoke-free to raise awareness of tobacco-related deaths
• Schu’s hosts its own Relay For Life team and has raised thousands of dollars to support cancer research
• Schu’s has provided a full brunch during the Relay For Life festivities for 700 cancer survivors and their caregivers every year for the last decade

Owner, Larry Schuler’s wife, Molly died in February of this year after ten years of triumphs over her cancer. According to Shelli Stockbarger of ACS, “Schu’s story inspires me, their customers, our community and countless others … to do the right thing.”
