Schu’s Grill and Bar more than doubles goal for their donation to the American Cancer Society. The annual fund-raising event, “Schulebration,” raised over $ 9,000.00
St. Joseph, Michigan: Larry Schuler, owner of Schu’s Grill and Bar, and his wife Molly, are very pleased to announce a donation of over $9,000.00 from the restaurant to the American Cancer Society. The newly dubbed “Schulebration” is the fifth annual fund-raiser, which is held each Super Bowl weekend. Thirty-six members of the community volunteered to be actual servers at Schu’s Grill and Bar, while encouraging their friends and family to dine at the restaurant and tip generously. In addition, more than 20 staff members helped out, while forgoing their tips. All gratuities generated Friday and Saturday during the lunch and dinner shifts were pooled together and tallied at the end of the weekend.
“It’s obvious the volunteers really have fun, while at the same time they realize a new appreciation for the hard work it takes to keep their customers happy. The entire event is very rewarding, and the team deserves applause for generating such a sizeable donation for the American Cancer Society,” commented Larry Schuler. Benefiting others through this effort and donation is also a very personal cause for the Schulers, as Molly Schuler, with the help of family and friends, has been fighting her own battle with cancer for over seven years.
The Schulers also shared that their goal for this year was $4,000.00. To more than double that amount may reflect how most, if not all of us, are affected in some way by cancer. Obvious planning, cooperation, volunteerism and willingness to participate combined with a spirit of true generosity made for a hugely successful “Schulebration.”
